On October 26, 2015 a video went viral of a girl in Columbia, South Carolina being assaulted in her classroom by a school resource officer. The assault resulted in her not only being injured but also arrested along with another female student who stood up to defend her. After days of outrage, no sleep and an overwhelming sense of sadness for these girls I could no longer sit. I traveled to South Carolina on October 31, 2015 to offer assistance in ensuring both girls were receiving emotional support for the trauma they had experienced.
After meeting with close to 100 people in the community I would discover resignation to abuse of children stems from generations of unhealed trauma. I am heading back to Columbia to continue to work with the community to heal and grow. – Vivian Anderson
